The main goal of Spanish pilot site is to contribute to the improvement of road safety and sustainability by means of upgrading and extending the provision of C-ITS currently existing in the country both in terms of  road network coverage and in number of services. After SCALE project lifetime, more than 2500 Km along Spanish road network (including motorways, conventional, periurban and also urban nodes) will be then covered with C-ITS provision of up to 28 C-ITS use cases.
Relying in the recent amended ITS Directive, this expansion, ‘service oriented’, will follow a principle of technological neutrality stablishing a hybrid approach aiming to exploit the different advantages and features of the different technologies in order to optimize C-ITS availability and reliability. To  ensure compatibility and interoperability with the specifications developed by the C-ROADS  and observation of  the Security Certificate Policy for the implementation and operation of European C-ITS  will be also key principles for the extension and upgrade of the C-ITS provision planned.
